Wayward Transparency Fabrics

Now that the cutting instructions have been released for the Wayward Transparency Quilt Along hosted by Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl, it was time to finalize my fabric selections.

I pulled the light (Fabric A) the medium (Fabric B) fabrics from my stash but I didn't have a dark that suited me.

It was harder finding a dark that was just right to go both with the light solid, Free Spirit Designer Solid in Chartreuse, and the medium print, Roman Glass in Leafy.  I ended up choosing a Kona Cotton solid in Avocado for the dark (Fabric C).

After I got home I questioned if I had made the right choice.  It sure looked awfully dark, it looked perfect in the store.  After all, I was at Foam and Fabrics, mentioned here, and had every color of Kona green before me from which to choose.

Here's what they look like before and after all the color was taken away.  Before...

And after....

At first I thought it was way too dark, but after looking at the fabric requirements again,  the percentage of the dark or Fabric C required was relatively small compared to Fabrics A and B.  So I'm going to trust I made the right decision.

Now, I better get to cutting!

  1. I love your greens, perfect together, and the B&W shows good contrasts. I haven't started cutting yet, need new roller blades.

  4. Oh, those fabrics are really pretty. I have mine, but haven't settled on them for sure yet. I just went with one of Yvonne's suggestions because I've been gone so much I haven't had time to play with fabrics. I might change up, I might not. I think you are spot on!

  5. Lookin' good! You're brave to go with a print. I've settled on three orange solids.... I think. But I may change my mind yet, especially after seeing your great combo!

  8. I haven't started cutting yet; the pinks are still percolating on the longarm table so I see them every day. I hope hope I have enough yardage. That Kaffe print is one of my all-time favourites; love the greens you have put with it.

  12. Anything with a Kaffe print is a winner in my book. And green too. Great choices. I find that my stash is lacking when it comes to darks and keep reminding myself to push more in that direction and break away from all the middle values I tend toward. Hard to do though.
