Modern Plus Sign Quilts Blog Hop + Day 9

On Day 9 of the Modern Plus Sign Quilts Blog Hop we look at the two last, but not least, quilts from the book, Bear Claw Plus and Intertwined.   The giveaway today is a 10 small spool thread collection by Tula Pink.

Bear Claw Plus

I just love this modern take on the traditional bear claw block designed by Cheryl.  I was excited to piece this one and picked out an Elizabeth Hartman print from Rhoda Ruth in Petal and paired it with Kona Cotton in White by Robert Kaufman for high contrast.

I'm rather fond of the secondary pattern formed when the blocks are joined together.  It's such a pretty star.  And, when piecing, most of the points were kept in tact.

From some of the photos I've seen on Instagram, many of you are not experiencing a lovely spring right now, but maybe this photo taken by C&T last spring will take you there.  Bear Claw Plus is so pretty sitting on the fence.

And just look at a close up of the quilting done by Johellen George.  I thought Bear Claw Plus deserved more than an allover pattern.  So, we discussed combining some ruler work with free motion quilting including pebbles, swirls and uneven parallel lines.  I couldn't be more pleased.

Intertwined

Plus signs interacting with the background makes this a fun design.  Cheryl designed Intertwined and was originally going to make this one.

That is, until the fabric, Grafic by Latifah Saafir for Hoffman Fabrics, arrived at my house and I wouldn't let her have it!

Here I arranged and rearranged the fabric until I had the layout I liked trying to disperse the colors and prints evenly.

For the quilting, I went to Johellen's house and got to use her Innova longarm for the first time.  I quilting angled lines trying to emulate overhead electrical wires like in the fabric.

This is one of my favorite shots from the book and appears on the back cover.

  7. These have been some great days of quilts. Thanks so much for all the links to wonderful posts. Google did some kind of update yesterday and now I can comment on embedded boxes again, as long as I use my google ID. It's been almost a year!

  8. Paige, I love the fabrics you chose for Intertwined! Such a gorgeous palette. And I'm really enjoying the blog hop and seeing how differently each person is interpreting the patterns. I'm so glad I have enough bandwidth here in the Bahamas to load each blog :)

  9. Paige, I was trying to find one quilt from this book that really was the best, that stood above all the rest, that was the shining star of the book. Nope, couldn't do it as they are all great.

  10. Paige, I think it is hysterical that you wouldn't let Cheryl have the fabric and I can see why. It's beautiful. I have really enjoyed the blog hop and I wish you and Cheryl great success with the book.
