October One Monthly Goal ~ Butterfly Mini Quilt

I'm sliding in at the last minute to declare my October One Monthly Goal, a mini swap quilt made from butterfly blocks.  One Monthly Goal is hosted by Patty at Elm Street Quilts.

I've made two blocks and need twenty two more for the layout I have in mind.

I've always admired the butterfly quilt made by Rita from Red Pepper Quilts.   She has a butterfly block tutorial here for traditionally piecing the blocks.  I decided to draft paper foundations for a similar butterfly so they could be paper pieced.

And here are the fabrics I'll be using minus the pearl bracelets.

I better get busy, there are more butterflies to take flight!

You can see the other goal declarations in the October One Monthly Goal linkup at Elm Street Quilts.

  1. I love these butterfly blocks! I've always thought the tutorial seemed a little tricky so it paper-piecing is a great solution.

  12. It’s a great idea to paper piece the butterflies, I think even I could manage an accurate block! You have a beautiful array of fabrics, good luck with your goal.

  13. Good for you to participate! A couple other friends are too. But goal-setting isn't my style. If I decide to do something like that, I make myself crazy making sure I make that commitment... and doing that isn't fun! I keep a mental list of to-dos, and that works best for me. Hope you enjoy doing this! FPP is certainly a fun way to make blocks.
